One life has been saved, but a bigger plot has only just ignited.
Having thwarted treachery in the realm, Marguerite Bonheur finds herself embroiled in a new web of courtly complexities. As the trusted lady-in-waiting to Princess Henrietta, Marguerite faces her greatest challenge yet – guiding the princess through a fragile betrothal to a sickly foreign prince.
With the shadow of an ever-vengeful Dulcibelle, the king's malicious mistress, still looming, Marguerite's role at court becomes even more fraught with danger. Admist the Duchess’ schemes and relentless scrutiny from the court, Marguerite's connection with Prince Armel deepens.
As the world edges closer to a resurgence of magic, an unsettling mystery emerges—people are vanishing without a trace. Marguerite races to solve the puzzle, protect her mistress, and make her mark on the world.

"Can't I be my own person in this world without having to rely on the status of a man to support me?" This one quote stuck out to me throughout the whole book, as it summarizes Marguerite's character perfectly. Fiercely independent, she knows her strengths and weaknesses, and her character has developed significantly as we follow from reading the first book. A different setting, a higher stakes plot, new and familiar characters alike, all woven together to spin an engaging tale. Bonus points once again for being a clean read with a not so heavy romance plot - the subplot was marginal, but it was just right
Ms. Silver continues to entertain and engage readers in this second installment. Character development is consistent with the first including plot twists that are both surprising and endearing. We're rooting for the heroine and her allies as good battles evil. Looking forward to the third volume!
The writing is excellent. The tale is exciting with just a bit of romance. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!!!!!
The second installment was just as cute and enjoyable as the first! Crispan and Etienna are my spirit animals and their banter is amazing. Meanwhile, Armel and Marguerite continued to steal my heart with their perfect dynamic. What I particularly loved about this book was the increase in drama, secrets, and a touch more magic. However, I still find myself hoping that the next book will delve even deeper into the magical elements I've been eagerly anticipating. Overall, this was another delightful installment in the series, and I can't wait to see what the next book has in store!
